R448A, also known as Solstice N40, is a non-flammable, colorless, and non-toxic refrigerant blend that's used in low and medium temperature refrigeration applications. It's a replacement for R22 and R404A, and can be used in new installations and to retrofit existing systems. R448A is used in many industries, including construction, electronics, food and beverages, and supermarkets.

R448A was developed between 2010 and 2015 by Honeywell, the University of Maryland, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory in an effort to reduce energy consumption by 50%. It has a number of properties that make it a good choice for refrigeration, including:

Low global warming potential (GWP): R448A has a GWP of 1387, which is higher than 1 and therefore governed by the F-gas Regulation 517/2014.

High energy efficiency: R448A is more energy efficient than other refrigerants.

Reduced compressor discharge temperature: R448A reduces compressor discharge temperature at low and medium temperatures.
